Preparations

Reference notes on the botulinum toxin preparations licensed in the UK — what distinguishes them, why their units are not interchangeable, and where the official product information lives.

Several botulinum toxin type A preparations are licensed in the UK. They are not variants of one product: they differ in formulation, in the complexing proteins they carry or lack, in storage requirements, and — critically — in the unit system used to measure them.

No dosing information appears anywhere in this section. Dose, injection sites, dilution and treatment interval are set by each manufacturer and published in that product’s Summary of Product Characteristics. Every page here links to the official SmPC on the electronic medicines compendium instead of restating it.

All of these products are prescription-only medicines in the UK. The pages below describe what each preparation is, for readers who want to understand the differences between them.
